Review:

It seems like Ms Bailey can turn her hand to anything, as she turns to the crime genre for One For The Road. It’s not my usual fast paced choice full of gore, but it does have the kind of slow burning tension that kept me intrigued until the end.

The strength of One For The Road lies in the characters. There are three strands to this novel and each strand gives the reader the perspective of a different character. This allows us to see what each person is feeling and thinking as the plot unravels. These characters are constructed in a way that makes them seem incredibly human. Their feelings are always relatable, even when they are in situations which are not familiar to me.

As with all of Bailey’s novels, One For The Road is set in Northamptonshire. Her sense of place is wonderful, and I found I could easily picture the scenes in the novel.
