Linda O’Byrne: Cassandra

Today iI’m pleased to be taking part in the blog tour for Cassandra. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell and the team at Spellbound Books for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

Many years have passed since the dramatic events of Pride and Prejudice.
In The Cousins of Pemberley series we follow a new generation of heroines – cousins with
lives as different and interesting as those enjoyed by their mothers.

Cassandra:

Cassandra Wickham, daughter of a flirt and a scoundrel, an innocent abroad in a world where money can buy you anything, even a bride.

When danger threatens and the man she thought she could rely on fails her, there is only one place she can turn to
for help –

Pemberley.

Surely the Darcy’s will protect her, no matter what happened in the past to divide the two families?

Coming March 2022: Catherine – Book 2 in The Cousins of Pemberley series.

Review:

Pride & Prejudice is one of my all time favourite books, so I’m always interested to see how authors interpret what happened after Austen’s pages stopped rolling. O’Byrne offers us an angle that I’ve never seen before and I enjoyed getting to know these characters who are part of the younger generation. The writing style maintains the essence of everything I love about Austen, but adds a modern twist so that Cassandra’s story will also appeal to new readers.

Cassandra is obviously the heroine of the novel and she is a character with whom I had a great deal of sympathy. Her mother, Lydia, does not come across too well in the original novel, but Cassandra, in contrast, appears to be thoughtful and intelligent. I enjoyed catching up with characters from Pride & Prejudice and I must commend O’Byrne on her ability to convey the characteristics of such established characters so well.

Cassandra is a relatively short novel and this means we are taken to the action almost straight away. The story is one that held my interest the whole way through and I loved following the ups and downs of the heroine’s life, especially her romantic adventures. I wanted to know how everything would turn out and was rooting for Cassandra, hoping that it would end well for her.

I understand Cassandra is the beginning of a series featuring the cousins of Pemberley and I look forward to learning more about the other characters in detail as the series continues.

Cassandra is available from Amazon.
