Today I’m joining the blog tour for Voices Of Cancer. I’m sharing my Q&A with the author with thanks to Rachel Gilbey at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on the tour and to Lynda Wolters for answering my questions!
Have you always wanted to write?
Yes, to put it directly; I just didn’t know how or what.
What were your previous jobs? Have they helped you with your writing process?
For 30+ years I have worked in the legal field and it has absolutely assisted me in writing. I use research and drafting on a continual, daily basis at work and that discipline and skill easily flows over to my book writing.
What was your inspiration for Voices of Cancer?
I attended a camp for adult survivors of cancer called Epic Experience in Colorado, and it was there that I realized that all the other survivors were going through the same emotions and wrestling with the same feelings and difficulties I was – it was there that I knew I needed to write this book.
Are you a plotter or a pantster?
For Voices of Cancer, I was a meticulous plotter. There were numerous people with numerous stories that I wanted to make sure I got into the book and there was no other way to succeed except to tightly outline. Now, for my fiction work, I am a pantster all the way.
How did you research?
My research was simply conversations with dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of cancer patients. When you are in a cancer facility wearing the wrist band indicating you are the patient, there is nothing off limits that you can ask a fellow wrist-bander. And I am a talker!
What do you do in your spare time?
My husband and I used to ballroom and West Coast Swing dance. Unfortunately, the fatigue following treatment (and COVID) really changed my ability to dance. I now read – a lot.
