SJI Holliday: The Party Season

Blurb:

The festive season is in full swing – parties, mistletoe and Christmas crackers abound.

In a hotel bar, a woman approaches you. Her party dress glitters with sequins.

What you don’t know is that your life is now in her hands – and there’s only one thing that will determine whether you live or die.

Are you a good person? Are you really? . . .

A cracking Christmas crime thriller for the festive season – perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, C.L. Taylor and Alex Pine.

Review:

I read the predecessor to The Party Season, The Deaths Of December, a few years ago, and I definitely felt that the characters had more to give, so I was pleased to catch up with DS Becky Greene and DI Eddie Carmine. I love the humour between them and the way they bounce off each other. It’s not essential to read The Deaths Of December before this one, but it will help you to understand the dynamics of the team and appreciate it more.

The Party Season is written from a number of different perspectives: Becky, Eddie, Harry and The Party Girl. This helped me to see what was happening in the investigation from every possible side. Although this makes the novel more of a cat and mouse chase than a whodunnit, it’s still an exciting read and it was fascinating to gain more insight into the characters, especially The Party Girl.

The Party Girl is a difficult person to find, but the novel never felt slow paced because I enjoyed piecing together the snippets from other character’s chapters to work out what was happening and that revealed some surprises. As the novel reached the ending, the tension suddenly increased and I was crossing my fingers hoping for a good outcome.

I’m a self-confessed Scrooge and I loved that the author did not throw the Christmas theme in the readers face, but instead made reference to songs and traditions gently so that it made even someone like me feel a little bit more festive!

I’d definitely like Eddie and Becky’s stories to continue so I do hope this is something that the author is considering.

The Party Season is available from Amazon.
