MEET DETECTIVE JACK MACINTOSH IN THIS BRILLIANT NEW CRIME SERIES.
An absolutely gripping crime thriller with a massive twist.
Please note this book was previously published as The Fifteen.
Eighty-one-year-old Eddie Wakefield is found brutally murdered at the nursing home where he lives. Crudely carved into his flesh — while he was still alive — is the number fifteen.
Detective Jack MacIntosh and his team are determined to track down the ruthless killer of this frail elderly man. But the investigation is leading nowhere.
Then the second body is discovered. The victim was stabbed to death in their own home. Again, the number fifteen is etched into the dead man’s flesh.
A single clue leads to St Bartholomew’s School for Boys, a grim and forbidding institution on England’s south coast — and a series of shocking secrets stretching back more than forty years.
What is the significance of the number fifteen . . . and is Jack prepared for the horrifying truth?
Perfect for fans of Helen H. Durrant, Biba Pearce, Lynda La Plante, Angela Marsons and Rachel McLean.
Review:
I read Seven Days To Die last year and loved it, so I’ve been desperate to find a space to read Fifteen Reasons To Kill and it did not disappoint. Detective Inspector Jack McIntosh is a character with whom I can easily sympathise and I love his determined, if slightly unorthodox, approach to each case. He has a fascinating back story and I love that this is explored more in Fifteen Reasons To Kill. There is still room for this subplot to develop in the sequel and I look forward to seeing where the author takes him and the supporting characters, especially his brother, Stuart.
Fifteen Reasons To Kill is split into short sections, each headed with a date, time and place. This is a really effective technique, as it allows the author to take us back and forward in time without causing confusion. The snippets from the past help the reader to see how the killer is motivated, which, alongside the fast paced writing, keeps the tension high and made me want to keep reading to the end.
Michelle Kidd is a really talented writer and her plots are incredibly complex. I love the way she brings so many aspects of her victims’ lives into play and brings them together in such a compelling way. There are a lot of red herrings in the story and I loved following them.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!
