IN A CITY FULL OF LIFE, DEATH CAN BE JUST AROUND THE CORNER
When a 21-year-old girl is found dead in a skip with her throat slit, and her body mutilated, a tormented criminal profiler connects a series of sadistic crimes in Liverpool.
With insufficient evidence and a predator terrorising the streets, this is the most challenging and chilling case that Jo Linnet has ever faced.
Everything changes when the hunter becomes the hunted.
Review:
Hunted is a book that wasn’t on my radar, but was recommended to me in an online book club. I’m so glad I discovered it as Laura Graves is a very talented writer who will only become more so as her career grows. Her writing is easy to read, despite what is at times a difficult subject matter and the chapters are short and fast paced, which made it difficult for me to put the book down.
The central characters in this story are Detective Inspector Harry Gillespie and psychological profiler, Dr Jolene Linnett. This gives Hunted a slightly different dynamic to other crime novels out there and I really admire that Laura Graves has also added some unusual aspects to the investigation. Gillespie and Jolene have great banter between them and I wonder if the author has a long term future planned for them.
The novel is set in Liverpool and Laura Graves has a brilliant knowledge of the city which she uses well in her writing. I’m not familiar with Liverpool, having only visited a few times, but I was taken right to the heart of the action in this story.
In the last few chapters of Hunted the tension really ramps up and there is a definite sense of danger. Although I did guess who the killer was, I was still on the edge of my seat as the novel concluded.
Hunted is available from Amazon.
