Robert Thorogood: The Marlow Murder Club

Blurb:

To solve an impossible murder, you need an impossible hero…

Seventy-seven-year-old Judith Potts is blissfully happy. She lives alone in a faded mansion in Marlow, sets crosswords for The Times, and there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink.

One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. When the local police don’t believe her story, Judith and two unlikely friends decide to investigate for themselves. Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.

But soon another body turns up, and it seems they have a real-life serial killer on their hands. Now the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape…

Review:

I’ve heard a lot about The Marlow Murder Club and it’s now been made into a TV adaptation, so now seemed like the perfect time to read and review it. It was so worth the wait! It’s cleverly plotted, yet very easy to read and I found it very difficult to put down.

The murder club consists of three women, Judith, Becks and Suzie. They’re all very different but they complement each other perfectly and I was rooting for them all the way through, but especially towards the end when the situation became a little hairy. I love the humour with which the author writes: there was something on every page that raised a chuckle. Robert Thorogood also hints at the back stories of these wonderful ladies, which are really intriguing, so I hope we learn more about their pasts as the series continues.

The Marlow Murder Club may not be the gory kind of crime novel I’m used to, but there is still plenty of tension that kept me engaged from beginning to end. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more about these characters!

The Marlow Murder Club is available from Amazon.
