JM Hall: A Pen Dipped In Poison

Blurb:

Retired schoolteachers and amateur sleuths Liz, Pat and Thelma have a brand-new mystery to solve in this witty tale – perfect for fans of The Thursday Murder Club and Robert Thorogood

Curious white envelopes have been delivered to friends and neighbours. Inside are letters revealing the deepest secrets they have tried to hide.

As one by one, careers are ended, marriages destroyed and no one is beyond suspicion, the three friends decide enough is enough. They must take matters into their own hands before more damage is done.

But as they work to uncover the truth, they begin to wonder just how far someone will go to silence this poison pen…

Could a murderer be in their midst once again?

The second totally addictive and page-turning cosy mystery featuring these very unlikely sleuths. Fans of Agatha Christie and Midsomer Murders will be hooked from the very first page.

Review:

I loved A Spoonful Of Murder last year (much more than I was expecting to) so I’m thrilled to have found a space in my reading schedule to catch up with Liz, Pat and Thelma in A Pen Dipped In Poison. For anyone who knows any teachers, you will know that JM Hall has these characters absolutely spot on. I love being part of their lives and sharing in all the humour and gossip from St Barnabus’ School. I also love their friendship with each other and the way they use each others’ different strengths to get to the answers.

JM Hall lives in Yorkshire and the novels in this series are mostly set there. His sense of place is brilliant and as I know many of the areas about which he writes, I enjoyed being able to picture the locations and see clearly where the characters were and what they were doing.

A Pen Dipped In Poison would probably be categorised as cosy crime, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t gripping or engaging. I really wanted to know who was behind this quite spiteful crime and I found it very difficult to put the book down, such is  JM Hall’s wonderfully easy writing style.

The third book in the series is released soon and I’m excited to see what happens next.

A Pen Dipped In Poison is available from Amazon.
