Kim Nash: Making Memories At The Cornish Cove

Today I’m joining the blog tour for Making Memories At The Cornish Cove. My review is written with thanks to Rachel Gilbey at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on the tour and to Boldwood Books for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

It’s never too late

After five husbands and five broken hearts, Lydia feels like she’s always been chasing something. But now she’s found her purpose, and having moved to Driftwood Bay to spend more time with her daughter Meredith, she’s happier than ever.

But there’s still life in these old bones yet! With her newfound sense of identity, she’s keen to re-explore the things that made her happy as a younger person. Lydia’s passion was dancing – she used to compete in her younger years, and there’s no place she’s more at home than on the dancefloor.

So when widower and antiques restorer Martin tells her about a big dance competition, she’s ready and raring to bring more joy into her life. But while making memories with Martin, the more she realises that both of their hearts need restoring too…

An utterly gorgeous romantic read set by the beautiful Cornish coast, perfect for fans of Phillipa Ashley and Heidi Swain.

Review:

Despite romance not being my usual genre, I absolutely love the Driftwood Bay series, so I’ve been looking forward to Making Memories At The Cornish Cove since I finished the previous book, and it did not disappoint! I love Kim Nash’s easy style of writing and how she effortlessly transports us to Driftwood Bay. Her descriptions are beautiful, so much so that I really want to live there myself, but it’s the sense of community that really draws me in. The characters’ relationships with each other are often complex, but so we’ll drawn, and I love the way that Kim Nash reintroduced characters from her previous books which reinforces that sense of community.

The protagonist of Making Memories At The Cornish Cove is Lydia Robinson, the mother of Meredith, who is a regular character throughout the series. Kim Nash has previously touched upon the relationship between Lydia and Meredith, but I loved seeing how things happened from Lydia’s side and getting to know her better. Lydia clearly has a colourful past and I loved learning more about this and how she became the person we see in the novel.

There are some real laugh out loud moments in Making Memories At The Cornish Cove, which I really enjoyed, but as always, Kim Nash touches on some much more serious issues and she is brilliant at this. She makes some poignant observations about the importance of memories and family, particularly as we get older, which gave me pause for thought as I was reading.

I really hope there is more to come from this series.
