Chris Carter: The Crucifix Killer

Blurb:

THE FIRST CHILLING NOVEL IN THE ACCLAIMED ROBERT HUNTER SERIES

When the body of a young woman is discovered in a derelict cottage in Los Angeles, Robert Hunter is thrown into a nightmare case. The victim suffered a terrible death, and on the nape of her neck has been carved a strange double-cross: the signature of a psychopath known as the Crucifix Killer.

But that’s impossible. Because two years ago, the Crucifix Killer was caught and executed. Could this therefore be a copycat killer? Or could the unthinkable be true? Is the real killer still out there, ready to embark once again on a vicious and violent killing spree, selecting his victims seemingly at random, taunting Robert Hunter with his inability to catch him?

Hunter and his rookie partner, Garcia, need to solve this case and fast.

Review:

Before anyone shouts at me, I don’t know where I’ve been, I don’t know why I’ve never read anything by Chris Carter before and I’m very happy I came out from underneath the rock. What an amazing book! I’m really not sure that my words will be able to do it justice but I’ll give it a try.

Whenever anyone asks me what I like reading, my answer is usually “crime, the gorier, the better” and to be honest, it feels like Chris Carter wrote The Crucifix Killer just for me. It’s definitely gory, it’s violent and it’s wonderfully twisted. Chris Carter’s writing is fast paced, effortlessly switching between scenes, and I was totally hooked all the way through.

I always love meeting a new detective and their team and Robert Hunter and Garcia are wonderful characters. Hunter is incredibly intelligent, extremely dedicated and fiercely determined and I just know I would want him in my corner if I were the victim of a crime. Garcia is a rookie, but he’s also intelligent and eager to learn. I love the psychological element to Hunter’s work as it really made me think as the story gathered pace. Their partnership is brilliant and I look forward to reading more from them.

Chris Carter has plotted The Crucifix Killer amazingly well and he has used the psychological element of Hunter’s character to the maximum. I don’t want to give away spoilers but the ending is particularly gripping and I love the way the story is resolved.

The Crucifix Killer is available from Amazon.
