Louise Jensen: The Intruders

Blurb:

They were told to leave. They should have listened.

The perfect opportunity…

A manor house available rent-free to house-sitters is an offer too good to miss for Cass and James, who have been saving for a deposit on their own home for so long.

Although it had been abandoned for almost thirty years, after a home invasion left almost all the inhabitants dead, it is an amazing chance for them to build their future.

But is it worth the price?

Shortly after moving in things take a sinister turn. Objects disappear and turn up in odd places, the clock always stops at the same time, the house is strangely oppressive and sometimes it feels like Cass and James are not alone.

Newington House may have bad energy, and a dark reputation. But surely there’s no reason for history to repeat itself, is there?

Review:

I’ve read a few novels by Louise Jensen before, but she’s really stepped up a level with The Intruders. She’s an absolutely phenomenal writer and the prologue is one of the creepiest, scariest passages I have ever read. I’ll definitely be looking over my shoulder when I’m alone in the house for the foreseeable future and I love that a writer is able to give me those feelings!

The Intruders has several narrators, including Cass, James, Rose and Marina. Louise Jensen has built their personalities and backgrounds really well and I really wanted to know how everyone was connected, particularly as the novel switches expertly between scenes in the past and present. I was absolutely gripped the whole way through and I found it really difficult to put this novel down!

Louise Jensen is the most amazing plotter! The plot of The Intruders is very complex and I love how the author weaves all the different strands of it together. There are so many twists and turns that I lost count, and although I guessed some of them, most of them were a complete surprise. I’m usually quite sceptical of novels with a supernatural element, but Louise Jensen pulls this strand of the story off with aplomb – it just adds to how creepy it is!

I can’t wait to see what Louise Jensen does next!

The Intruders is available from Amazon.
