Welcome back to another #MusicMonday! It’s not about books, but about music, and I’m looking forward to presenting you with a taste of my playlist. It’s the brainchild of Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek, but my inspiration comes from the lovely Claire from A Knight’s Reads. Every Monday, I’ll be choosing a song to share with you. The Spotify playlist is here and it will be updated as I go along.
I’m still trying out a few different decades and this week, we’re going back to 2009. Biffy Clyro have been the band of the moment for me recently. I went to see them at The Piece Hall on Friday night. I’ve also been taking part in #SkelfSummer for Orenda Books, and Biffy Clyro often provide one of the central characters of Doug Johnstone’s Skelf series, Dorothy, with drumming inspiration! Today I’m sharing one of my favourite Biffy Clyro songs.
Biffy Clyro: The Captain
Angels fall to the floor
Like they would if I was captain
“Silver children, ” she roared
“I’m not the son of God”
Somebody help me sing
Can anybody hear me?
Liars and lovers combine tonight
We’re gonna make a scene
Somebody help me sing
Whoa
Somebody help me sing
Whoa
Help me be captain of
Our crippled disguises
I won’t show what’s underneath
It’s time for surprises
I can’t climb up your ladder
I can’t ride your horse
I’ve swallowed half an hourglass
So now the landscape has swollen up
I gave birth to a fire
It’s like his features were burning
I’m in control
I am the son of God
Somebody help me sing
Can anybody hear me?
Line up your soldiers one final time
We’re gonna have a ball
Somebody help me sing
Whoa
Somebody help me sing
Whoa
Help me be captain of
Our crippled disguises
I won’t show what’s underneath
It’s time for surprises
I can’t climb up your ladder
I can’t ride your horse
I’ve swallowed half an hourglass
So now the landscape has swollen up
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away
Let’s love death away (yeah)
