Today I’m joining the blog tour for Mother Daughter. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the tour and to Joffe Books for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
My daughter is missing . . . and it’s my fault.
Seventeen years ago I gave birth to her in circumstances so horrific you really won’t want to know. No one should ever go through what I did. Every day of my life I’ve had to deal with that.
Now my daughter has disappeared. She’s facing the same nightmare as me.
Trauma repeats.
You won’t want to put this down until you find out the shocking truth about what happened.
If you loved John Marrs’ Keep It In The Family, Freida McFadden’s The Wife Upstairs, Keri Beevis’s Nowhere to Hide or Abigail Dean’s Girl A, you’ll love Mother, Daughter.
Review:
I read and enjoyed a book by Anya Mora for the first time earlier this year so I was looking forward to seeing what she would do next. Mother Daughter is just as gripping and intriguing and I love the way the author takes a popular theme – young girls who are missing – and writes about it in a unique way.
Anya Mora’s writing is really fast paced and I sped through the pages, desperate to find out more about both Ruby and Maple The novel is relatively short and I read it in less than a day, but there is definitely a lot packed into it. Despite this, it is extremely dark and there are a few descriptions of abuse so it is often difficult to read.
Each chapter of Mother Daughter is narrated by a different character and this helped me to gain insight into each person. Although Ruby’s character was well developed, particularly with the inclusion of extracts from her book, I felt that the focus on pace and plot perhaps meant that I was able to discover less about the other characters.
The ending of Mother Daughter is particularly frantic and I was on the edge of my seat trying to work out where Maple was. I did think I could see where the story was going but I was completely wrong
Mother Daughter is available from Amazon.
