#MusicMonday #36 – Will you apologise for the remainder of your life?

Welcome back to another #MusicMonday! It’s not about books, but about music, and I’m looking forward to presenting you with a taste of my playlist. It’s the brainchild of Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek, but my inspiration comes from the lovely Claire from A Knight’s Reads. Every Monday, I’ll be choosing a song to share with you. The Spotify playlist is here and it will be updated as I go along.

Tomorrow, I’m going to see Fontaines DC. It’s one of those gigs I bought tickets for without really knowing much about the band that’s playing, so I started listening and I have to say I’m impressed. I love the way they give a modern twist to an older style of music. Today I’m sharing one of my favourites:

Changed my name to “Promise-You”, yeah
Dying inside ’cause I want to, yeah
Didn’t I say I wanted to, yeah?
Honey, I’d changed before you, yeah
28 years are coming to end
The rain chased me down the gully again
Now I’m higher than anyone here
And dirt ain’t nothing on me, yeah

But she’s gone
But she’s gone
But she’s gone
But she’s gone

But-but-but, baby I swear it, I wanted to call
But on my way ’round I happened to fall
She’s a MUA at Carnegie Hall
In her vanity mirror, we’re losing it all
Well, we shacked up swift abandonment way
Catch sweet rain inside a beret
In it, I’m reflecting all of the day
And I will fade in the night, yeah

Will you apologize for the remainder of your life?
Do you accept the charges?
I promise you, I’ll promise to, yeah

Well, now she curls up with his favorite son
He’s the ugliest man in heaven for one
As long as there’s nobody fooling me there
Then dirt ain’t nothing on me, yeah, yeah
Yeah, they threw me out like I was a wedding bouquet
Now I can’t quite remember what I had to say
‘Til I get higher than anyone here
And I will fade in the night, yeah

In the charmless morning
I promise to be gone
I almost felt the feeling
That I wanted to, I wanted to, yeah

Ah, ah
You thought I was here
But I’m further than the sun, sun
Ah
Silent as the feeling
That I’ve promised you, I promise you, yeah

Well, I changed my name to “Promise-You”, yeah (but she’s gone)
It’s easier than making apologies, yeah (but she’s gone)
Now I’m higher than anyone here (but she’s gone)
And dirt ain’t nothing on me, yeah
