Tam Barnett: How To Get Away With Murder

Today I’m joining the blog tour for How To Get Away With Murder. My review is written with thanks to Rachel Gilbey at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on the tour and to the publisher for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

I’m obsessed with true crime. All the podcasts, the documentaries… I can’t get enough.

And now there’s a murderer on the loose where I live. What a rush!

Of course, some people might wonder if it’s me. Am I an innocent soul with an unhealthy fascination, or a deadly psychopath?

It’s the killer question. After all, I would love to know how to get away with murder…

Tam Barnett’s debut novel is perfect for readers of Katy Brent, CJ Skuse or Bella Mackie.

Review:

How To Get Away With Murder begins with a psychopath test, and as someone who loves the crime genre, this really piqued my interest, both in the plot and in Kelli as a central character. Kelli is a first person narrator and she uses a colloquial tone, which made me feel as though she was talking to me and involving me in the story. She has a colourful background which really adds to the development of her character and I really hoped she would find the answers she needed. Her narrative is easy to read and I love how the author uses humour alongside much more serious issues to draw the reader in.

Kelli is surrounded by an interesting group of family and friends who provide the reader with an intriguing list of suspects. There were several developments in this story that I did not see coming even though they were right in front of my nose, and this kept me hooked the whole way through.

However, it’s the ending where all the author’s groundwork really pays off and the story bursts into life. It’s really cleverly written and my jaw hit the floor as all the revelations came out.

I believe How To Get Away With Murder is Tam Barnett’s debut novel and her writing is already accomplished! I can’t wait to see what she does next!

How To Get Away With Murder is available from Amazon.
