Review:
I absolutely love this series and I was looking forward to catching up with DS Jazzy Solanki and DC Annie McQueen. It felt like a while since I had done so, but straight away I was pulled into their investigation, which picks up where the previous novel ended. I do recommend that you read the series in order, but Liz Mistry gets the reader up to speed really well.
Deadly Reckoning is the third instalment of the series and it’s my favourite so far. Jazzy and Queenie now feel like close friends to me, and once again, I love the dynamic between them. In this novel, each chapter is written from the perspective of a different character (including the perpetrator) and this gives us more insight into how they operate and how they respond to different situations. This also brings Fenton and Geordie further into the story and I enjoyed getting to know them better. Liz Mistry’s characterisation is wonderful, particularly where there is tension between the characters. There are a few characters who made my skin crawl.
In Deadly Reckoning, we know who the perpetrator is fairly quickly, which means that the novel is not a whodunnit, but a cat and mouse chase, which is full of adrenaline and tension. This kept me on my toes the whole way through as I really wanted to know how it would be concluded.
There are still some strands of the story which I would like to explore further, so I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
Deadly Reckoning is available from Amazon.
