Chris Carter: An Evil Mind

Today I’m back with the blogathon for Chris Carter’s Robert Hunter series. My review of An Evil Mind is shared with thanks to Tracy Fenton for inviting me on the blogathon.

Review:

A freak accident in rural Wyoming leads the Sheriff’s Department to arrest a man for a possible double homicide, but further investigations suggest a much more horrifying discovery – a serial killer who has been kidnapping, torturing and mutilating victims all over the United States for at least twenty-five years.

The suspect claims he is a pawn in a huge labyrinth of lies and deception – and he will now only speak to Detective Robert Hunter. These interviews begin to reveal terrifying secrets that no one could’ve foreseen, including the real identity of a killer so elusive that no one, not even the FBI, had any idea he existed . . . until now.

Review:

You will all know by now that I love this series and An Evil Mind is no different. It has a slightly different writing style in that we discover quite quickly who the perpetrator is, but the intrigue in this novel comes from being able to get inside their mind and see what makes them tick. It is also different because Hunter is temporarily working with the FBI rather than the LAPD. His partner is not Carlos Garcia, but Special Agent, Courtney Taylor. She has a very emotional side to her, but I found it very easy to warm to her. I enjoyed her relationship with Hunter, and I also enjoyed seeing a more vulnerable side of Hunter and learning more about his past.

As always, An Evil Mind is not for the faint hearted. As the title suggests, it deals with some very evil characters who have some brutal ways of operating. I’m certainly questioning my enjoyment of ice-cream now, but I love the visceral reaction it created in me and the way it helps to build tension throughout the novel.

Although we know who the perpetrator is, there is no less tension in An Evil Mind and there is also a definite sense of danger. As we reached the end of the novel, I was on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t wait to find out how justice would be done.

I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book in the series!

An Evil Mind is available from Amazon.
