Review:
The Clique is a really fast paced, slick debut novel. It’s really easy to read and I raced through it so quickly as I wanted to discover the secrets of Inside. It’s a fascinating concept and loves the dark atmosphere that Rhiannon Barnsley created. I was hooked on the story from the very beginning.
The protagonist of The Clique is Cassandra, and she’s a first person narrator. This is a really effective way of storytelling as there were parts of the novel where I was not sure that Cassandra was telling the truth, but it also means that the reader uncovers the secrets at the same time of the reader, and this makes the reveals very exciting. I often sympathised with Cassandra as the plot gathered pace, and I wanted her to find the answers she needed.
The Clique is well plotted and there are a few twists that kept me on my toes and took the novel in a direction I was not expecting. I loved the sense of danger towards the end and the tension was palpable.
I look forward to seeing what this author does next!
