Chris Bridges: The Death Bed

Today I’m joining the blog tour for The Death Bed. My review is written with thanks to Tracy Fenton for inviting me on the tour and to the publisher for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

She’s not there to save her friend.

She’s there to silence her.

When nurse Laura arrives at her old best friend’s death bed, it’s not out of compassion – it’s out of fear. Her enigmatic friend Sadie is dying, and with her last breath, she might destroy everything.

Sixteen years ago, tragedy tore their group of nursing students apart. And Laura has spent every moment since then ensuring the truth never sees the light of day.

But as Sadie fades, the past refuses to stay buried. And Laura is about to learn: The dying don’t always go quietly.

And some confessions are worth killing for.

Review:

I’ve heard a lot about Chris Bridges but Death Bed is the first book of his that I have had chance to read. I’ll definitely be going back to his other book because Chris Bridges is such a compelling writer! I found The Death Bed really easy to read and it was really difficult to put down.

Most of The Death Bed switches time between the early 1990s – when the central characters were nursing students – and 2010. It was fascinating to go back and see the events that made them into the people we see almost twenty years later. It was clear that something significant had happened between the characters and I loved how the tension grew as the characters share their memories and reflected on things that happened in their student days.

Chris Bridges has created some brilliant characters who are incredibly interesting to follow. I didn’t like any of them, and I absolutely would not want any of them caring for me if I was ill, but this doesn’t matter in this novel, as despite their dislikeable personalities, I was intrigued by the situations in which they found themselves and I really wanted to know how things would work out for them. I wasn’t always prepared for the answers but I really enjoyed the ride!

I am excited to see what Chris Bridges does next!

The Death Bed is available from Amazon.
