David B Lyons: She Said Three Said

Today I’m pleased to be taking part in the blog tour for She Said Three Said. My review is written with thanks to Emma Welton of damppebbles Blog Tours for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book via the publisher.

Blurb:

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a juror in a high-profile celebrity trial?

Well… now you don’t have to. Step inside the jury room to deliberate one of the most talked-about court cases of the decade. SHE SAID…all three men got her drunk, led her to a hotel room and took advantage of her. THREE SAID…she was a willing participant and consented to sex with each of them. After five-weeks of listening to all of the evidence and all of the arguments in a celebrity rape trial that has gripped an entire nation, the jury sit down to begin their deliberations. But they don’t know who to believe……will you? She Said, Three Said is one of the most provocative and thought-provoking novels of the modern era.

Review:

I’m fascinated by the work of the court and I would love to be part of a jury one day. I found She Said Three Said an engaging look at the way the justice process works and felt involved in it as I read the deliberations.

She Said Three Said switches between the jury room at the time of the trial and the events of the night when Sabrina alleges she was raped. This was a brilliant technique to maintain my interest as I was constantly trying to work out what the verdict should be. The chapters that show us the events of the night of the incident also give the reader insight into the characters of each of the three men. It is clear fairly early on that they have a dark past and Lyons does a wonderful job of putting doubt in the readers’ minds.

Rape is a brave and sensitive subject to tackle and one which is especially important in today’s society. I felt that Lyons approached it very well, giving the reader a lot to think about.

I found the ending of She Said Three Said shocking and it will stay with me for a long time to come.

She Said Three Said is available from Amazon.
