Mark Edwards: Here To Stay

Blurb:

A beautiful home. A loving wife. And in-laws to die for.

Gemma Robinson comes into Elliot’s life like a whirlwind, and they marry and settle into his home. When she asks him if her parents can come to stay for a couple of weeks, he is keen to oblige – he just doesn’t quite know what he’s signing up for.

The Robinsons arrive with Gemma’s sister, Chloe, a mysterious young woman who refuses to speak or leave her room. Elliot starts to suspect that the Robinsons are hiding a dark secret. And then there are the scars on his wife’s body that she won’t talk about . . .

As Elliot’s in-laws become more comfortable in his home, encroaching on all aspects of his life, it becomes clear that they have no intention of moving out. To protect Gemma, and their marriage, Elliot delves into the Robinsons’ past. But is he prepared for the truth?

From the two million copy bestselling author comes a tale about the chilling consequences of welcoming strangers into your home.

Review:

I love the blogging community! They can always point you towards books they know you’ll love! Here To Stay was recommended to me by Claire at A Knight’s Reads and she was spot on!

Here To Stay begins with a premise that a lot of people can relate to – having your in-laws to stay. It starts with them doing fairly innocuous things – leaving a mess or smoking inside – but gradually their list of misdemeanours builds as does the tension! There are also a few chapters that take place a year or two previously. This made me ask lots of questions and I wanted to keep reading to see how Elliot dealt with the new people in his life.

Sometimes when you read a novel, there are characters that make your blood boil and you feel so angry about them, as if they are people who are part of your own life. Geoff and Lizzie are two such characters who really got under my skin. They are brilliantly created, and as I chose to listen to the audio version of the book, I found the narration also conveyed the anger and frustration I felt towards them.

As Here To Stay continues, there are so many twists and turns that I cannot count them! Just as I thought everything had been resolved, there was another surprise around the corner! I loved being kept on my toes as the stakes got higher and higher.

I look forward to checking out more work by this author!
