Carol Wyer: A Cut For A Cut

Today I’m delighted that it’s my turn on the blog tour for A Cut For A Cut. My review is written with thanks to Emma Welton of damppebbles Blog Tours for inviting me on the tour and to the publisher for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

In the bleak countryside around Blithfield Reservoir, a serial murderer and rapist is leaving a trail of bloodshed. His savage calling card: the word ‘MINE’ carved into each of his victims.

DI Kate Young struggles to get the case moving – even when one of the team’s own investigators is found dead in a dumpster. But Kate is battling her own demons. Obsessed with exposing Superintendent John Dickson and convinced there’s a conspiracy running deep in the force, she no longer knows who to trust. Kate’s crusade has already cost her dearly. What will she lose next?

When her stepsister spills a long-buried secret, Kate realises she’s found the missing link – now she must prove it before the killer strikes again. With enemies closing in on all sides, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to bring them down. But time is running out, and Kate’s past has pushed her to the very edge. Can she stop herself from falling?

Review:

I’ve loved Carol Wyer’s previous books, especially the crime novels, but the DI Kate Young series is just something else! An Eye For An Eye ended on a huge cliffhanger and A Cut For A Cut started in the same vein – with a big bang! Wyer’s writing is absolutely brilliant. Everything is tightly plotted and although it’s detailed, nothing is insignificant.

I really enjoyed getting to know Kate, Morgan and Emma in An Eye For An Eye and in this instalment, they are joined by Jamie. It’s interesting to see how he affects the dynamics of the team and I’m sure there is more to come from him in the future.

A Cut For A Cut is incredibly fast paced and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole novel. There are a few chapters that are written from the perspective of the perpetrator and this did give me some valuable insight into his very warped mind. It did give me some hints which meant I had an inkling who the perpetrator was before he was revealed but this in no way took away from my enjoyment of the novel.

Once again, the ending of A Cut For A Cut indicates that Kate’s business is far from over and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

A Cut For A Cut is available from Amazon.
