Kevin McManus: Death Rains Down

Today I am sharing my review of Death Rains Down as part of the blog tour. It’s written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell and the team at Spellbound Books for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

Introducing Detective Ray Logue. A renegade, hard living & damaged cop. Full of Irish charm & the best detective in Port Ard.

Detective Ray Logue has become something of a maverick in Jim Mulcahy’s police department, having never quite got over the death of his wife 12 years earlier.

Now a hard-drinking loner and occasional loose cannon, Logue is a thorn in Mulcahy’s side, who occasionally crosses the fine line of taking the law into his own hands to see justice served.

As the body count starts to rise, Logue suspects he may have stumbled into a dangerous web of lies and cover-ups, stretching from his own department all the way to the very top of the political spectrum.

From the law-enforcers to the law-makers, from respectable businessmen to Russian mobsters – a sinister hand is exercising an iron grip across the whole social order and it will destroy anyone who dares get in its way.

Review:

Death Rains Down is the first book featuring Detective Ray Logue. I enjoyed our first meeting: he doesn’t always do things by the book but he is determined to find the perpetrator of the awful crimes that have happened on his patch. We also get a glimpse into his personal life but I think there is a lot more to come and I look forward to seeing what it is. I loved his relationship with his colleague, Jack McGarry too.

The novel is quite short, and this means we get through a lot in a short space of time. There are lots of different aspects to this story and I loved the pace – it made it very difficult to stop reading!

There are a number of suspects in Death Rains Down and it was interesting to try and work out what had happened. The tension builds gradually throughout the novel so that by the time we reach the end, it is explosive!

Death Rains Down is available from Amazon.
