Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for Guilt. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell and the team at Question Mark Press for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book.
Is a killer born…. or created?
A missing child.
A killer on the loose.
A past that refuses to die.
When a six-year-old boy disappears from a local fair, every parent’s worst nightmare is about to come true.
And for Detective Inspector Nicki Hardcastle, twenty-two years after her own nightmare began, the past she thought was buried starts catching up with her – and fast.
Leading the hunt for the missing child, Nicki soon finds the chase takes on a personal twist, with her own memories haunting her every move.
With time set against them, and a killer following his own chilling agenda, can Nicki and her team stop history from repeating itself?
Only time will tell.
But it’s time they don’t have.
A new police procedural series to get my teeth into is one of my favourite things ever, and Guilt is one of the best first books in a series I have ever read. Within the first few pages, I knew I would love DI Nicki Hardcastle and I was absolutely right. She’s determined and intelligent and has a great sense of humour, but she also has a tragic past. We get a glimpse into this in Guilt, but there is definitely more to come and I can’t wait for it. Nicki’s team are also brilliant characters and I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes them.
Guilt is really fast paced and I loved how easily the author could switch between scenes and leave us hanging while we waited to return to the scene. It felt like I was watching a film or TV series and I was hooked. There are some scenes that show us a glimpse of the killer and I found these fascinating, if a little disturbing.
The ending of this novel is really tense and I was holding my breath hoping Nicki and her team would find what they were looking for. Kidd has finished on a massive cliffhanger which just makes me want to read the next book now!
Guilt is available from Amazon.
