Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for Amongst The Mists. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell and the team at Question Mark Press for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book.
It was the most anticipated summer break of their young lives.
For Bran Lampshire, that summer of 1986 would be far different. The lure of a wilderness adventure sends him and his friends on a troublesome journey that would see them far from home and into the isolated shadows of the Sleathton Estate. In a forgotten land where nature thrives, an unexplained mist settles upon the shaded grounds. And stories were told of events so chilling, they were forcibly buried over time.
Lose yourself beneath the endless trees. And discover that legends are sometimes so much more than ghost stories.
Amongst The Mists is Rayner’s second novel and once again I was blown away by his writing. It has a wonderful old fashioned quality to it and it is very descriptive. I was drawn into the eerie scenes and was able to picture them as if I was there.
Some of the chapters in Amongst The Mists are written from the perspective of Olivia. I loved these chapters and felt that her voice was very distinctive. I wanted to know how she would fit into the main story and became more engaged as the novel progressed and we discovered some answers. Rayner also captured the characters of the teenage boys well. I found their anxiety and fascination, covered by their bravado very believable.
The atmosphere in Amongst The Mists is brilliant and I definitely felt chills down my spine as I read late at night! I loved the tension and was kept on my toes until the end. I can’t wait to see what this author does next!
Amongst The Mists is available from Amazon.
