Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for Night Shadows. My review is written with thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me on the blog tour and to Orenda Books for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
The small community of Akranes is devastated when a young man dies in a mysterious house fire, and when Detective Elma and her colleagues from West Iceland CID discover the fire was arson, they become embroiled in an increasingly perplexing case involving multiple suspects. What’s more, the dead man’s final online search raises fears that they could be investigating not one murder, but two.
A few months before the fire, a young Dutch woman takes a job as an au pair in Iceland, desperate to make a new life for herself after the death of her father. But the seemingly perfect family who employs her turns out to have problems of its own and she soon discovers she is running out of people to turn to.
As the police begin to home in on the truth, Elma, already struggling to come to terms with a life-changing event, finds herself in mortal danger as it becomes clear that someone has secrets they’ll do anything to hide…
Review:
I am a huge fan of this series and I was delighted to be back with Elma, Saevar and their team. The relationship between Elma and Saevar is brilliantly written and so relatable and I was rooting for the team to get to the bottom of this complex case.
Eva Bjorg Aegisdottir is an incredibly accomplished writer. I love the way that everything is described in such great depth to enable the reader to get a sense of exactly what has happened and who the suspects might be. In a small village, you might expect that there will be fewer suspects, but this is not true of The Night Shadows and the plotting was absolutely immaculate as the author brings in so many threads to this story. This is enhanced by the structure of the novel, which frequently goes back in time to show the reader what happened leading up to the night of Mario’s death.
As we get closer to the truth, the tension increases so much. I had white knuckles by the time I had reached the end. There is a definite sense of danger and I was desperate to know how everything would work out!
Elma also receives news in her personal life and I am so intrigued to see the impact this will have on her character going forward.
Night Shadows is available from Amazon.
