Today I’m joining the blog tour for Death And Mr Fould. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the blog tour and the team at SpellBound Books for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
A stunning gothic historical hybrid genre story perfect for Halloween!
Max Fould, an aristocrat from the Fould banking family, goes off to war under the leadership of Napoleon.
While stranded in Russia, he encounters a creature that sets his life on an unimaginable path based on Russian folklore.
Follow Max Fould from post-revolutionary France to the First World War, where his past and present come full circle.
Review:
I have never read anything by this author before and it did take me a while to get used to his unusual style of storytelling. However, Alan Derosby is a wonderful wordsmith and his descriptions conjure up the images of the people and places in the novel really well.
The plot of Death And Mr Fould is very complex and imaginative. There are so many layers and I had no idea where the story would go. My favourite section of the novel was the relationship between Max and Alice.
Death And Mr Fould moves between a few different periods and the author has researched the historical content really thoroughly. I found it interesting to learn more about the Romanov family as this aspect of history is not something I have previously studied.
Death And Mr Fould is available from Amazon.
