MQ Webb: When You’re Dying

Today I’m joining the blog tour for When You’re Dying. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the tour and to the author for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

When you’re dying, a lot goes through your mind.

Verity Casmere knows Dale Carmot kidnapped her sister Ashlee and is willing to risk it all for the truth.

Alternating timelines collide as psychiatrist Oscar de la Nuit returns to help Verity find peace before she dies.

Who would you live for? Who would you die for?

Review:

I really enjoyed How To Spot A Psychopath last year, so I was delighted to discover that Oscar de la Nuit would be returning. He’s a really well constructed character with a detailed and intriguing back story, and I love that this continues and is developed even further in When You’re Dying. Oscar is definitely a character I was able to root for and I was hooked from start to finish. Oscar is not the only intriguing character. I also found Verity and Dale and the other characters involved in Oscar’s investigation fascinating and this made the plot interesting to follow.

The chapters in When You’re Dying are narrated mostly by Verity and Oscar. As Verity is Oscar’s patient, this gives the reader questions about her reliability and I wondered throughout if she was telling the truth. This adds an extra layer of intrigue and I really wanted to get to the bottom of this story. The changing viewpoints also make the novel really fast paced, and ultimately, really difficult to put down.

I was really impressed by the ending of When You’re Dying. Not only was I surprised by the solution to Oscar’s case, but the realisation of what happened crept up on me quite slowly, rather than with a bang, and this gave it more impact.

I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

When You’re Dying is available from Amazon.
