Happy paperback publication day to Antti Tuomainen and The Beaver Theory! I’m celebrating by resharing my review, which I originally posted in October 2023, with thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me on the tour and to Orenda Books for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
Henri Koskinen, intrepid insurance mathematician and adventure-park entrepreneur, firmly believes in the power of common sense and order. That is until he moves in with painter Laura Helanto and her daughter…
As Henri realises he has inadvertently become part of a group of local dads, a competing adventure park is seeking to expand their operations, not always sticking to the law in the process…
Is it possible to combine the increasingly dangerous world of the adventure-park business with the unpredictability of life in a blended family? At first glance, the two appear to have only one thing in common: neither deals particularly well with a mounting body count.
In order to solve this seemingly impossible conundrum, Henri is forced to step far beyond the mathematical precision of his comfort zone … and the stakes have never been higher…
Warmly funny, quirky, touching, and a nail-biting triumph of a thriller, The Beaver Theory is the final instalment in the award-winning Rabbit Factor Trilogy, as Henri encounters the biggest challenge of his career, with hair-raising results…
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Steve Carell
Review:
I’m absolutely delighted to be back with Henri. He’s awkward and his methods are a little unorthodox, but he’s a character I’ve really felt able to root for over the course of this series. In The Beaver Theory, he has taken his relationship with Laura Helanto to the next level and moved in with her and her daughter ,Tuuli and I loved seeing him move out of his comfort zone in this way.
As Henri is the owner of YouMeFun Adventure Park, many of the scenes play out in the grounds of his own premises, and those of his main competitor, Somersault City and this gives the author the opportunity to have some fun once more. Henri finds himself in some amusing, perhaps even ridiculous situations and my enjoyment of these scenes was heightened by the use of such matter of fact language.
Amongst the fun, there are some serious elements of the story, including a murder plot, which begins in the first few pages of The Beaver Theory, meaning we really hit the ground running. I was intrigued all the way through to discover what had happened and it’s really hard to put the book down! I did not expect the plot to develop in the way that it did and I loved the roller coaster ride (pun not intended, OK maybe a little bit) on which Antti Tuomainen takes us.
The Beaver Theory is the third book in a trilogy and I’m really sad to be leaving these characters behind, but I can’t wait to see what the author has up his sleeve.
The Beaver Theory is available from Amazon.
