Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for The Matchmakers. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the tour and to the publisher for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
Lucy is devastated when she hears that her estranged sister Stephanie has died in a tragic
accident on her honeymoon.
Wanting to offer condolences to the widower, she approaches the dating agency she was sure
Stephanie had used, but they deny any knowledge of bride or groom. Grieving and suspicious,
Lucy determines to find out more.
Is Made in Heaven, with its quaint façade of old-fashioned gentility, doing more than matchmaking?
Review:
I was drawn to The Matchmakers by its blurb, as the premise is quite different to anything I have ever read before. Vanessa Edwards is a very clever writer, and I loved the way she reveals a complex plot to the reader quite gradually so that all the surprises had maximum impact. Her writing style is very engaging and I was very interested to discover the story behind Stephanie’s marriage.
The Matchmakers is written in several parts, which are each written from the perspectives of different characters. I thought this was very effective for two reasons: firstly, because I loved getting to know each character and what made them tick, and secondly, because I enjoyed knowing different parts of the puzzle as a reader that the characters might not be aware of yet. I must admit that it did take me a while to get to grips with the different viewpoints but once I did, I flew through the pages.
The story unravel brilliantly and it’s filled with twists and turns that make The Matchmakers stand out in a crowded genre. I’ll be thinking very carefully before I sign up to any dating agencies!
The Matchmakers is available from Amazon.
