Today I’m joining the blog tour for Shatter Creek. My review is written with thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me on the tour and to Orenda Books for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
Hampstead County Police Department is embroiled in scandal after corruption at the top of the force was exposed. Cleared of involvement and returned to active duty, Detective Sergeant Casey Wray nonetheless finds herself at a crossroads when it becomes clear not everyone believes she’s innocent.
CORRUPTION
Partnered with rookie Billy Drocker, Casey works a shocking daytime double-homicide in downtown Rockport with the two victims seemingly unknown to one another. And when a third victim is gunned down on her doorstep shortly after, it appears an abusive ex-boyfriend holds the key to the killings.
MURDER
With powerful figures demanding answers, Casey and Billy search for the suspect, fearing he’s on a murderous rampage. But when a key witness goes missing, and new evidence just won’t fit, the case begins to unravel.
DANGER
With her career in jeopardy, Casey makes a shattering discovery that threatens to expose the true darkness at the heart of the murders… with a killer still on the loose…

Review:
I enjoyed reading Black Reed Bay last year, so I was really pleased to have the opportunity to read the second book in the series. The events in the first book are recapped well, but I would recommend reading it first, as the story follows on directly. Shatter Creek is even better! I absolutely love Casey Wray – she’s honest, determined and loyal, and she’s come through a number of obstacles to get to where she is today. There’s a new lieutenant for her to work with in Shatter Creek, and they don’t get off to a brilliant start, so this creates an interesting dynamic within her team which gives the novel an underlying tension alongside the investigation. I also enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the officers in her team better.
The plot of Shatter Creek is really well constructed and quite complex, and this made it absolutely fascinating to follow. The investigation raises many questions, and I loved trying to work out how all the threads were connected. Rod Reynolds writes scenes that are really exciting and full of tension and I raced through this novel.
The ending of Shatter Creek sets us up for a wonderful third book in the series and I can’t wait for it!
Shatter Creek is available from Amazon.
