Welcome back to another #MusicMonday! It’s not about books, but about music, and I’m looking forward to presenting you with a taste of my playlist. It’s the brainchild of Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek, but my inspiration comes from the lovely Claire from A Knight’s Reads. Every Monday, I’ll be choosing a song to share with you. The Spotify playlist is here and it will be updated as I go along.
The band I’ve chosen for #MusicMonday today have been popping up on my Spotify algorithm for a few weeks now and I’ve really enjoyed listening to them. This is one of my favourite tracks.
Florence Road: Break The Girl
Cold days you go away
In search of finding something
To keep alive the flame
Then she came
Pocketful of rain
Said pick up the embers
But you have to hide the pain
If you can’t take it back
Why’d you do her like that?
You break the girl and take the pearl
Like it’s good for nothing
You say you love, but then you don’t show her any of it
You crossed the line, she walked the bridge
And now you’re leaving
You break the girl and take the pearl
Like she’s good for nothing
Caught up in the hems
Said I was your baby
But nothing ever gave
Frayed at the ends
Still not making sense
I’m crying at a movie
When I should feel something else
If you can’t take it back
Why’d you do me like that?
You break the girl and take the pearl
Like it’s good for nothing
You say you love, but then you don’t show her any of it
You crossed the line, she walked the bridge
And now you’re leaving
You break the girl and take the pearl
Like she’s good for nothing
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Why break the girl?
She’s just a girl
Why break the girl? No
She’s just a girl
Why break the girl
Mother of pearl, why did you turn?
You’re tryna teach something that you will never learn
You crossed the line, she walked the bridge
And now you’re leaving
You break the girl and take the pearl
Like she’s good for nothing
Like she’s good for nothing
Ready? (That sounds close now, I’m ready)
