RWR MacDonald: The Nancys And The Secret Of Tulip Farm

Today I’m pleased to be taking part in the blog tour for The Nancys And The Secret Of Tulip Farm. My review is written with thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me on the blog tour and to Orenda Books for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

The Nancys are back…

It’s four months after Christmas, and Tippy Chan, Uncle Pike and Devon are reunited in Riverstone for the first anniversary of Tippy’s father’s death. This time, the plan is simple: no mysteries, no crimes, and definitely no secret detective clubs.

Riverstone has other ideas…

When an early-morning explosion destroys the town hall and kills three people, the town is thrown into chaos. An arrest is made and everyone in Riverstone decides the case is closed … except for Tippy and the Nancys. Once again, it’s up to the Nancys to go against the flow … and police advice.

Their search draws them towards Tulip Farm and raises more questions than answers. Is the accused bomber really guilty? Was he working alone? And when everyone else is convinced they’re right, does that make you wrong?

With rumours spreading, tempers flaring and the threat of another attack hanging over the town, the Nancys must work out who to trust, who to ignore, and how to stop a killer before they strike again…

Funny, fearless and fizzing with heart, The Nancys and the Secret of Tulip Farm is a joyful, nerve-jangling mystery about belonging, loyalty and asking awkward questions, with a dark and dangerous secret at its core and characters you will never forget…

A hilarious, and heartfelt twist on Nancy Drew – perfect for readers who love The List of Suspicious Things.

Review:

I loved The Nancys And The Case Of The Missing Necklace so I was delighted to be back with Tippy, Pike and Devon and their friends and neighbours so soon. The Nancys And The Secret Of Tulip Farm starts with a bang, quite literally, and I feel this sets a slightly darker tone than in the previous novel, but I was absolutely invested and wanted to know what the Nancys would discover.

I fell in love with Tippy Chan throughout the previous novel, and my affection for her only grew in The Nancys And The Secret Of Tulip Farm. She’s twelve now, and she’s definitely wise beyond her years, but she is still learning to handle her grief and is very vulnerable. I love her relationship with her Uncle Pike and Devon, and the way she bounces off them so easily provides a lot of humour alongside the dark elements of the novel. Uncle Pike and Devon are very colourful characters, but they too have their more serious moments in this novel and I was rooting for them the whole way through.

RWR MacDonald is a wonderful writer and I love the way he has built such a close community in the village of Riverstone. It’s a village where everyone knows each other, and the investigation means the Nancys have to reconsider what they think they know about the people who are living amongst them. As Tippy regularly reminds Uncle Pike and Devon, everyone is a suspect, and this meant that as a reader, I could not stop looking for clues. Towards the end of the novel, there is a sense that the investigation is a race against time and this creates some brilliant tension that kept me engaged until the very end.

I love the ending of the novel and it provides an intriguing opening for the next instalment in the series. I can’t wait!
