Miranda Rijks: Fatal Fortune

I’m pleased to be taking part in the blog tour for Fatal Fortune today  My review is written with thanks to Emma at damppebbles Blog Tours for inviting me on the tour and for my copy of the book.

Blurb:

Is someone trying to frame psychologist Pippa Durrant for the brutal murder of a woman she’s never even met?

It certainly seems that way when Pippa’s photo is found on the body of murdered lottery winner, Leanne Smith.

Pippa soon finds herself a suspect at the centre of a huge media storm. But she has an invaluable skill set – she is a human polygraph, expertly trained to spot lies and deceit. Skills she will need to help her to solve the mystery of who killed Leanne before it destroys her career – and her life.

But every cloud has a silver lining and this one arrives in the shape of DS Joe Swain. Initially suspicious of Pippa, he comes to trust her and to value her lie detection skills. Soon it’s clear there’s a definite spark between them….

Then, when another body turns up, Pippa realises her reputation isn’t the only thing in danger. Can she identify the killer before she becomes the next victim?

Fatal Fortune is the electrifying first book in the Dr Pippa Durrant Mystery Series. If you like edge-of-your-seat action, clever sleuths, and shocking twists, then you’ll love Miranda Rijks’ gripping mystery novel.

Review:

I believe Fatal Fortune is the start of a new series featuring Philippa Durrant and it is very promising  It’s slightly different from most series in that Pippa becomes an integral part of the investigations in this novel. Rijks builds Philippa’s Fcharacter brilliantly and there are several different aspects to her life which give her plenty of room to grow as the series continues. In addition  the lives of the victims and suspects are depicted in detail, creating a tangled web for the reader to pick through to guess what has happened. I was intrigued throughout, and couldn’t wait to discover how all the pieces fit together.

Fatal Fortune is a fast paced novel with short.chapters  and I loved how the tension gradually grew as we reached the end. There is also a growing sense of danger which kept me on my toes.

The ending of the novel is quite open so I am looking forward to seeing what is next for Pippa.
