BR Stateham: Dark Retribution: Smitty’s Calling Card

Today I’m pleased to be taking part in the blog tour for Dark Retribution: Smitty’s Calling Card. My review is written with thanks to Blackthorn Books for inviting me on the tour and providing me with my copy of the book.

Blurb:

Smitty’s a hit man. A hit man who, sometimes, becomes a dark angel for those select few who are in desperate need. This time a cop needs his help in saving his sister-in-law. A madman is stalking ladies of the night and slaughtering them. No one knows who the madman might be. No clues are left behind. No witnesses are left alive. The police are baffled.

But one cop knows what to do. Sometimes, in defeating Evil, you occasionally have to flirt with the devil. Sometimes, only a killer can find a killer.

Review:

Dark Retribution: Smitty’s Calling Card is the first in a trilogy and it’s a very explosive start. The characters in this novel often use some pretty explosive methods and this creates a tense atmosphere that’s fraught with danger.

The central character, Smitty, is interesting  given that he’s usually on the opposite side of the law to the police who he has been brought into help. He’s quick thinking and determined, which makes him someone I could get behind despite his obviously shady past. I am sure there is more to come from him as the trilogy continues. The other characters in the novel are also well drawn and their history is well plotted, which helped me to understand their actions as the novel progressed.

I was gripped until the very end and I am intrigued to see where the trilogy takes us next.

Dark Retribution: Smitty’s Calling Card is available from Amazon.
