Review:

If you’ve read my reviews before, you will know that I am a huge fan of Carol Wyer and her writing just gets better with every book. In the Kate Young series especially, there are multiple plots which are often overlapping and complex as well as some wonderful symbolism. I am a sucker for stories like this and I was pulled into the action immediately, not wanting to let go. 

I love Wyer’s characterisation and Kate’s back story highlights her humanity and makes me root for her the whole way through, whatever she is doing. There is an arc that has run through the whole series (which I won’t describe in case there are people who are yet to read the preceding books) which adds an interesting dimension to her character and gets more and more exciting as the series progresses. I also enjoyed delving deeper into the lives of her team, especially Emma and Jamie, and I love seeing them all work together so closely. 

The investigation that forms the main plot of A Life For A Life is absolutely fascinating and it has everything I would ask for in a novel in this genre. It is less about who did it than why they did it and if/how Kate and her team are able to catch them and the chase gives us a particularly thrilling ride. The novel is full of intrigue and tension that kept me hooked until the end. 

The last few chapters of A Life For A Life are absolutely breathtaking and I cannot wait for Kate’s journey to continue.
