Today I am delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for A Truth For A Truth. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the tour and to the publisher for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
DI Kate Young has known for years that her boss, Superintendent John Dickson, is a violent and evil man. But when she finally confronts him and accidentally shoots and kills him, she’s forced to cover her tracks before anyone can pin his death on her. With revelations about his corruption soon to become public knowledge, Kate sets up a trail of evidence to make it seem that Dickson has conveniently vanished…
But Kate knows the corruption doesn’t end with Dickson. As she heads up the team investigating his supposed disappearance, she also pursues other loose ends. Stanka, the sex worker who supplied the evidence against Dickson, leads her to crucial information on another corrupt officer, DI Harriet Khatri, and her dubious involvement with sex traffickers.
As the noose starts to tighten on Kate, she finds herself targeted by traffickers, the bent cops on her force and even her own team of detectives. Can she stay one step ahead of them all and bring Harriet to justice? Can she trust anyone around her? And can she possibly get away with murder?
Review:
It’s no secret that Carol Wyer is one of my favourite authors, so I was hotly anticipating the fourth instalment of the DI Kate Young series. This series is much grittier than the other series Carol Wyer has written, and with every book, the writing becomes sharper and the stories more complex, which highlights the author’s amazing talent.
DI Kate Young leads a relatively small team, and this means we get to know the characters within it fairly well. DS Morgan Meredith and DS Emma Donaldson have been with the team since the series started, and I’ve loved watching them grow, both as detectives and in their personal lives. There’s a significant development in A Truth For A Truth, which I will be watching with a keen eye as the series continues. Throughout the novel, and indeed the series, it has been very difficult for Kate, and us as readers to know who to trust. The third member of the team, DC Jamie Webster, and Kate’s boss, DCI William Chase, are characters who I questioned throughout A Truth For A Truth, and this made the investigation a very tense one.
The opening scene of A Truth For A Truth is so action packed that it guarantees the novel starts with a bang and keeps giving and giving until the final page. I could have easily read this book in a few sittings, had my circumstances not dictated otherwise! I was intrigued by how the investigation would be resolved and was hooked by all the clever twists and turns!
As always, the epilogue sets us up really well for the next book in the series, and I cannot wait!
A Truth For A Truth is available from Amazon.
