Today I’m joining the blog tour for Renegade. My review is written with thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me on the tour and to the author for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
If you don’t trust the police, there’s only one place to go
The death of an old acquaintance drags Rand Scott back to a life he left behind.
A police investigation is going nowhere and a grieving wife wants answers.
Putting minds at rest should be easy, and it gets him away from the city.
But factory farms and animal rights activists can be a toxic combination.
And Rand soon discovers a world where violence is the only common language.
Review:
I enjoyed reading Borderline last year, so I was pleased to be back with Rand once more. He’s an interesting character with unorthodox methods who often finds himself in tricky situations, but I still wanted him to succeed and was rooting for him throughout the novel. In Renegade, we learn more about his time as an undercover police officer and meet some of his former colleagues. I really appreciated that this helped me to get to know him better, especially the things that make him tick on a more emotional level.
Graeme Cumming is a talented writer. He paces Renegade perfectly and even though the earlier stages of the novel are more slow burning, I still wanted to read just one more chapter before bed!
I noted that Renegade, like Borderline is set approximately ten years ago. This allows Graeme Cumming to comment on the social and political issues that were prevalent at that time, particularly Brexit, with the benefit of hindsight, giving the story another intriguing layer.
As Renegade reaches its conclusion, the tension escalates and I love how the story burst into life with some of the jeopardy and violence I enjoyed in Borderline coming to the fore. I was totally engaged in Rand’s investigation and I was keen to find out the answers.
I can’t wait to see what Rand does next!
Renegade is available from Amazon.
