Today I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for An Eye For An Eye. My review is written with thanks to Emma Welton of damppebbles Blog Tours for inviting me on the tour and to Carol Wyer for my copy of the book.
Blurb:
A killer running rings around the police. A detective spiralling out of control.
DI Kate Young is on leave. She’s the force’s best detective, but her bosses know she’s under pressure, on medication and overcoming trauma. So after her bad judgement call leads to a narrowly averted public disaster, they’re sure all she needs is a rest.
But when Staffordshire Police summon her back to work on a murder case, it’s a harder, more suspicious Kate Young who returns. With a new ruthlessness, she sets about tracking down a clinical, calculating serial killer who is torturing victims and leaving clues to taunt the police. Spurred on by her reporter husband, Young begins to suspect that the murderer might be closer than she ever imagined.
As she works to uncover the truth, Young unravels a network of secrets and lies, with even those closest to her having something to hide. But with her own competence—and her grip on reality—called into question, can she unmask the killer before they strike again?
Review:
Unless you have lived under a rock for the last five years, you’ll know how much I love Carol Wyer’s previous series featuring Robyn Carter and Natalie Ward. An Eye For An Eye is the beginning of a new series with Detective Inspector Kate Young, and to be honest, it’s totally on another level. Kate is a very complex character and I loved getting to know her. It’s difficult to say much more than that without giving away spoilers, but there are definitely plenty of places that Wyer could go with her development and I’m excited to see what she decides, as Kate is one of those characters I could root for whatever happens. Kate works alongside fellow officers, Morgan and Emma, both of whom I found very likeable and I’m very interested to read more of their personal story as the series continues.
The plot of An Eye For An Eye is complex, and Wyer weaves lots of threads together to make sure it works. It is meticulously planned and I admire the patience this must have taken! I can genuinely say I had absolutely no idea where the investigation was going until the final few chapters, but I was engaged and intrigued from beginning to end. There are several unusual aspects to this case, but I enjoyed learning about objects and ideas I’d never come across before. The twists in An Eye For An Eye are literally jaw dropping, but I’ll say no more for fear of spoilers.
An Eye For An Eye ends on a huge cliffhanger, and Wyer is, quite frankly, cruel for making us wait so long for the next one. I want to read it now!

Sorry but I’m smiling at your last comment about being cruel to make you wait. I feel like a villain in a James Bond movie, laughing cruelly as your dismay.
Seriously, a very warm and massively grateful thank you for this epic review. I’m so glad you liked Kate and enjoyed the book. Your review has really boosted me today and I shall tackle book 3 with more gusto having read this.
Thanks too for sharing your thoughts and book love. It means a heck of a lot. to me and is very much appreciated.
As for book 2, well, A Cut For A Cut will be out on June 24th but reviewers will get it sooner so maybe not so long to wait. *he…he..he*
